Privacy Policy
Last updated October 8, 2026
Wubee is made by FRANCESCO BERTOCCI, LLC. We built it to collect as little as possible: there are no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no accounts. The only outside service in the app is RevenueCat, which handles Wubee Plus purchases. This page explains exactly what the app and the web player store, where it lives, and who can see it.
- Solo play, settings and progress stay in your iCloud and on your device. We can’t see them.
- Games with friends are stored in Apple’s iCloud, in a shared game database. Each move carries your chosen display name and an anonymous iCloud ID.
- Anyone with a game’s link can see that game, including the names in it. We can see these game records too.
- Wubee Plus purchases go through Apple. RevenueCat confirms them using an anonymous ID and the purchase receipt.
- No ads, analytics, tracking, location, contacts, photos, microphone, email address or payment details. Ever.
What’s stored, and where
On your device and in your own iCloud
The iPhone and iPad app keeps these in Apple’s iCloud key-value storage (which syncs between your own devices) and in the app’s local settings:
- Your display name, the second player’s name for same-device games, and your piece colours.
- Your settings: sound, haptics, threat hints, piece style, board sizes, computer level.
- Games in progress against the computer or on the same device, Word Cube progress, Cube Pop boards and best scores.
- A list of your games with friends: the game ID, your opponent’s display name and when you last opened it.
Only you can read this data. It never reaches us.
Games with friends (Apple iCloud, shared game database)
When you start or join a game with a friend, each action is saved as a small record in the public database of the iCloud container iCloud.com.fbmore.Wubee, run by Apple. A record holds:
| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| Game ID | The random code in the game’s link |
| Kind, round, cell, time | What happened (join, move, word, pop, message, rematch, resign, end) and when |
| Text | Your display name when you join, a preset quick message, the word you played, or the orbs you popped |
| Author | Your iCloud user record ID for this app: an anonymous identifier, not your Apple Account email or name |
| Display name and colour | As you chose them in Settings |
Who can see these records: the players of that game; anyone who has the game’s link (links are not secret: treat them like an invitation); and FRANCESCO BERTOCCI, LLC, through Apple’s CloudKit tools, to run and support the service. Messages are limited to a fixed set of preset phrases; there is no free-text chat.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, the app asks iCloud to alert you when it’s your turn or a friend sends a quick message (an iCloud subscription per game), and schedules one local reminder on your device 24 hours after it became your turn. Notifications are optional and can be turned off in Settings → Notifications → Wubee.
The web player
The browser version at wubee.app stores the same kinds of settings and progress in your browser’s local storage, on your device only. To play a game with a friend in the browser you sign in with Apple through Apple’s CloudKit JS; the records it writes are the same as above.
Device permissions
The only permission Wubee asks for is notifications, and only when you start or open a game with a friend (or turn it on in Settings). It does not use your camera, photos, microphone, location, contacts, motion sensors or Bluetooth.
What we do not collect
- No advertising, advertising IDs or tracking across apps and websites.
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs. The one third-party SDK is RevenueCat, for purchases (below).
- No email address, phone number, real name (unless you choose to use it as your display name), location, contacts, photos or audio.
- No payment information. Purchases go through Apple; we never see your card or Apple Account details.
Third-party services
- Apple: iCloud and CloudKit store your private settings and the shared game records; Sign in with Apple is used by the web player. Apple’s privacy policy applies to Apple’s handling of this data.
- RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc.) processes Wubee Plus purchases in the iPhone and iPad app. When the app starts it sends RevenueCat an anonymous, randomly generated app user ID, and when you buy or restore it receives the purchase receipt from Apple: product, price, currency, country, and purchase and renewal dates. It is used only to unlock Plus on your devices, never for advertising or tracking. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy.
- GitHub Pages hosts this website and the web player. GitHub may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses) when you load the pages.
Keeping and deleting data
Settings and progress in your iCloud stay until you delete the app’s data (iPhone Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage) or remove the app. Records of games with friends are kept until they’re deleted. To have records of your games deleted, email [email protected] with the game links or IDs; we’ll remove them, usually within 30 days. Ending a game from the app stops it for both players.
Children
Wubee is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Players choose a display name that others in their games can see; parents may wish to suggest a nickname. If you believe a child has shared personal information in a display name, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app’s release notes.
